About Us
Riptide Publishing is a boutique publisher of some of the finest LGBTQ fiction available today. Created by industry veterans, Riptide Publishing sought to bring the Manhattan-quality aesthetic to small-press, author-friendly publishing—and in doing so, to elevate and integrate positive LGBTQ representation into the mainstream. Riptide Publishing now fills a critical niche in the general fiction market: quality books, pristinely packaged, that satisfy readers’ desires for rich, plotty, well-edited, queer-positive stories.
More than Just Romance
Riptide is a romance-focused house, but that's not all we offer. First and foremost, Riptide publishes quality LGBTQ fiction. Erotica? Yes. Romance? Absolutely. But stories with LGBTQ protagonists or a focus on the LGBTQ experience also have a place at Riptide—no romance required. Riptide's Anglerfish Press imprint features non-romance stories that "explore what lurks in the depths," and our Triton Press imprint features a variety of YA titles.
Critical and Commercial Success
Since our launch in October of 2011, many of our titles have received starred reviews and made best-of lists in venues such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, RT Book Reviews, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, Foreword Reviews, and Booklist, and have won or been shortlisted for awards ranging from the RITAs to the Foreword IndieFabs to the EPICs to the Lambda Literary Awards. Riptide holds the distinction of publishing the first-ever m/m romance to win the prestigious RITA, and the first-ever f/f romance to be nominated for one. In keeping with our mission of making LGBTQ+ literature accessible, dozens of our titles have been sold into translation and/or audio in multiple territories. You'll find all our titles in ebook and many in print and audio, and you'll find our staff at many of the major (and minor) industry and reader conferences on panels, hosting workshops, taking pitches, selling books, and passing out swag. Authors, readers, staff, and industry pros are tremendously enthusiastic about the house we've built, and we hope you will be too.
Want to Publish with Us?
Though Riptide began as an invitation-only press, our editorial staff has grown sufficiently to permit us to open the submissions box. You do not need an agent to submit to Riptide, although agented submissions are of course welcome. To submit online, please visit our submissions page for instructions. You can also find our editors taking pitches at conferences like RT, RWA, and GayRomLit.
